We build electric bike systems for everyday riders and real-world roads
TAV Electric designs and delivers mid-drive electric bike systems that help people convert regular bicycles into reliable, high-performance e-bikes.
Why we started TAV?
TAV began in 2020 at Flinders University in South Australia.
While working on electric mobility projects, our founders — Nithesh Pushparaj, Velmurugan and Manimaran — kept running into the same problem.
Most electric conversion kits were built as generic add-ons. They looked good on paper, but struggled once taken onto real roads, real gradients and real daily riding.
We saw riders compromise between performance, reliability and serviceability — simply because the underlying systems were never designed as a complete powertrain.
So we started building our own. What began as a university prototype soon became a focused engineering mission to build complete electric powertrain systems — not prototypes.
From prototypes to real bikes - Engineered using First principles
Our first systems were not designed for show.
They were built to be tested, opened, modified and rebuilt.
We spent years validating,
- drivetrain behaviours
- heat and sealing performance
- service centric powertrains
- controller and sensor behaviour in real riding conditions
This hands-on engineering phase shaped one clear belief: Reliability comes from architecture, not accessories.
That is why TAV focuses on full mid-drive systems — integrating motor, controller, sensors and mechanical interfaces as one platform.
In 2025, An engineering led innovation company
Today, in 2026, TAV is an engineering-led company.
Our motor systems, electronics, controllers and mechanical integration are developed through structured engineering design and validation in collaboration with academic and industry partners in Australia and India.
Our work spans across
- motor and drivetrain architecture
- controller and firmware validation
- mechanical integration and serviceability
- environmental and durability testing
Manufacturing
Our manufacturing and assembly operations are based in Chennai, enabling close control over quality, testing and supply chain.
Our product development and validation work is supported by our engineering network in both India and Australia.
This dual-region structure allows us to build globally competitive products while remaining cost-efficient and service-friendly for the Indian market.
Our Humans behind TAV
Trusted by riders and partners
Today, TAV mid-drive systems are used across commuter, cargo and custom bicycles.
More than 1,000 bicycles have already been converted using TAV systems.
